Crude Ash in dog food is to describe the mineral content within the dog's food. To make it simple crude ash is the mineral content would be left behind if we would burn the dogfood in very high temperatures causing fats, carbs and protein to be burned leaving behind the minerals - like calcium, phosphorous, zinc, iron, and other essential minerals.

Ash is not a bad word in fact it's a measurement of minerals that have to be in foods, to some extent, since your dog needs calcium, phosphorus, sodium, and a plethora of trace minerals. Dry pet food always contains ash and the aim is to have it under 7% while wet dog food will usually have it in smaller amounts - typically 2% or less. The declaration of this material is required by the European regulation ((EC) No 767/2009).

Minerals are an essential class of nutrients that must be included to ensure your dog's healthy and balanced diet. They are needed for the development and function of your dog's body. They help to balance body fluids and to support strong bones and teeth.
